Fire flames
Fire flames

Holstered in darkness,

his words revolve in my listless mind

like bullets in a chamber.

He never knows

when his fire hits me,

but this shot lodged between my ribs,

stole away my breath and

ripped clean through.

I clamber to keep the copper teardrops

from piercing flesh, from sinking in.

The residue on his hands,

and he just lies there, motionless,

breath muzzled soft and

hair in wisps like gun smoke.
